Steve has hosted the JDR Cables Systems Charity Summer Ball since 2019 and continues to do so to the present day. The event is staged at Hardwick Hall, Sedgefield. JDR have raised well around £163,000 for local charities.
The benefitting charities from the inaugural ball until 2023 have been Mesothelioma UK - A national asbestos-related cancer charity, and local support group Readley. Zoё's Place has also befitted.
Rob and Lucy Smedley have been very generous with both their time and financial assistance. Local lad Rob, Rob is the former Head of Vehicle Performance at the Williams Martini Racing Formula One team. Prior to joining Williams, he was the race engineer for Felipe Massa at Ferrari. After eight years, both moved to Williams. Rob very kindly donates lots of F1 Memorabilia for the auction. There have been some other fantastic auction prizes through the years, including spending the day with the Red Arrows!
